Five is the first perfume I ever exhibited in a gallery. I had been making perfume in my studio for several years, but I had never dared to "show" any of it. Since this was a debut for me, I decided to go back to the beginning of modern perfume: around 1785 with the introduction of fresh citrus and herbal scents known in German as Kölnisch Wasser (meaning "Water from Cologne") and in French as Eau de Cologne.

This is a very familiar but infinitely variable accord depending on which herbs and citrus are included. The challenge is bringing something new and unexpected while staying faithful to the form. I created a mineral accord, not quite aquatic. I also added yuzu, a Japanese citrus that brings an unexpected twist to the classic citrus accord.
